First time an all women's team fishes in and wins the Gold Cup Tournament!
Congratulations to our IWFA members, Molly Fleming, Serena Wilson, Tonya Love Cheatham, and their good friend Kelly Kirkpatrick for winning this year’s prestigious Gold Cup Tournament in Palm Beach, Florida. The tournament was held January 11th -15th. Fishing in some choppy waters on the boat Showtime, the lady anglers, with Captain Jon Meade at the helm, and his crew, beat out 23 other teams with nine sailfish releases to win this year’s tournament. The ladies made the history books for The Sailfish Club of Florida's 50th Anniversary Tournament this year by being the first all women team to participate in the tournament’s history. In the past women had fished in this tournament but never as a team. Teammate Kelly Fitzpatrick won the Overall Angler AND the Lady Angler Award which was also a first for the tournament. The Gold Cup Tournament which is one of the most prestigious sailfish tournaments in the country was started by John Rybovich in 1972. John was married to Kay Rybovich, who was one of the IWFA’s founding members. Congratulations to the entire team, we couldn’t be happier for all of you and we know Kay would be too!
We were all on the showtime, it was the first time in the history of the club that there was an all girl boat and first time in the history of the club that an all girl boat won. And we won on time! - Molly
